Your Emotions Are Killing Your Mind, Body and Soul

Welcome. Welcoming, IALAC

I have been on this wild journey of soul, mind and body since this past Advent Season – focusing on mastering my body through mortifications. Check out my previous article about how I have come to love discipline … now. God has made clear the soul, mind and body are fully connected and to ignore one is to keep your spiritual, emotional, and physical body out of balance. They are all connected and God is enlightening my heart to work on all three so I can be the best evangelist possible armed with His knowledge and wisdom.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

The Soul Must Come First

You may have heard the 10 Commandments can be reduced to two:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:30-31).

The only way we can love ourselves and our neighbors as God commands is if we have Him in our heart all day, every day and begin each day in mental prayer with God. We must live with purpose and meaning – paying attention at every moment to master the attacks we will get on our God-given peace. It can come to us out of the blue, through the different ways in which we consume information, through entertainment, our external environment, from our internal subconscious programming or from evil.

I found I was focusing a little too much on learning about my body, all of the amazing systems within, how the brain and body worked as well as how to feed it with the best nutrients. I was slowly realizing my mental prayer time had gotten shorter and shorter. We took some time to travel, and my prayer life suffered even more. Am I making these new podcasts and books my idol?

At the same time of this reflection, I was learning how our thoughts and emotions are subconsciously programmed in us and every moment of every day, we are making new programs or reliving old programs. When we experience those vicious and evil emotions (sometimes accompanied by evil thoughts) we trigger our mind and our body to increase the disease forming genes and cause our hearts and minds to beat out of sync. We specifically kick off chemical processes that trigger illness. Think about that for a second.

Not only are we killing ourselves physically, but we are killing our eternal souls as well. When we have these vicious thoughts and feelings, they also impact our emotional and spiritual state of being. We do not have the fruits or gifts of the Holy Spirit shining through us. We do not feel a heightened sense of love from God, we feel spiritually weighed down. We can also have a physical reaction like a pit in our stomach, heart pounding, temperature rising or red in the face, for example. The minute we feel fear, anxiety, anger, resentment, insecurity, depression, unworthiness, despair, we trigger our mind, body and soul for death.

All of what I mention is a human biological, physiological fact. There is such an intricate system of the brain, the body and the heart and how all of the systems such as reproductive, cardiovascular, muscular, skeletal, immune, digestion, circulatory, all work together beautifully to grow and repair if we keep our thoughts and feelings in check. This is the amazing way God made our bodies and I am so blessed He finally made all of this click for me.

The Brain And Body – Subconscious Programming

We are being programmed every single day. Once you manage your emotions and consume information, people, events, things, places with peace you will be able to see things with your analytical mind. If you are emotionally charged by a commercial, for example, your analytical mind shuts down and your subconscious mind opens up and is ready to receive whatever message it is.

I will use a shingles virus shot commercial as an example. The music begins, it is very deep and depressing. They show a man who is suffering in pain in bed. They show his wife, with concern, looking into her husband on the bed in pain. The narrator says in a doom and gloom voice, “If you had chicken pox, the shingles virus is already in you.” Words show up on the screen to reinforce this ominous message.

Music shifts, shows the face of man and woman again in fear, concern, pain, worry. “One in three people will get shingles.” Words show up on the screen. They go to the man, and he says, “I wish there was something I could do.” They go to the woman and she says, “I wish there was something I could do.”

Pain in his face, they pull back the man’s shirt and show what looks like a flesh-eating disease ready to consume the entire man in an hour – blood, scabs, irritation, looks horrendous. (By the way, I talked to a few doctors in practice for over 20 years and none of them said they have ever seen a shingles break out like those on the commercials. I digress, back to the commercial.)

The narrator says, “As you get older, your immune system gets weaker.” This is a lie, by the way, but I see so many people already accepting things like this as well as accepting the pains and aches as you get older because that’s what “they” say. Your immune system can get so healthy it is shocking, but only when you take care of the complete human – mind, body, soul.

Then, when they list the side effects, they proceed to say if you have a weakened immune system NOT to take the shingles shot. A direct contradiction of the message to scare you into getting the shot because your immune system is getting weaker as you age.

What is going on with the typical “emotional” viewer? This person has been subconsciously programmed. They got sucked into the emotions, they thought, “I have the virus in me now, I had chicken pox. Ow, that looks painful. I am getting older, my immune system is getting worse. That sore looks so bad. What are the chances I am one of the three? Those people look so distraught, they wish they could do something. But I can do something. I don’t have to feel that pain. Side-effects, what side effects, I don’t care if I lose my vision or if somehow my immune system, that they told me is getting worse, that I shouldn’t be taking it, even though that is why I am taking it, right? Oh, I don’t know, just give it to me.”

Now, if you immediately took away the emotions and watched with your analytical mind you would notice the manipulation of music, words, emotions and the contradictions of the ‘medicine’ itself with the immune system. You would laugh and never get the shot. If you knew more about how media, movies, commercials, corporations, universities, sports, entertainment consistently programmed you – you would also note the time of the commercial, too. When your melatonin is highest (later at night or early in the morning as you go in and out of your sleep state) is when you see most of your infomercials, for example. The circadian rhythm is a real thing, it balances our sleep and the artificial light we use is ruining our homeostasis and sleep balance, but that is another article for another day.

Not all the institutions or organizations are evil, of course, but let’s not be foolish. Back in Jesus’ day, there were evil people harming, enslaving and taking advantage of humanity – good, honest people. I believe it is much worse today as most people have fallen for the subconscious programming playing on all kinds of emotions. Consider the massive mind games with the abortion argument and how many people you know have fallen for the emotional side discarding the statistical information, let alone the religious implications. Look at what the ‘ruler of this world and his minions’ are feeding us – so many lies.

You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).

Our brain is like a library of memories and the most emotional memories are the ones we remember most vividly. Unfortunately, that means the most horrific feelings associated with a traumatic event, person, place or thing is what we likely remember the most. When we have a high emotional charge associated with negative feelings, when we recall the event, we are triggering the same trauma over and over again. The kicker is that your body doesn’t know that it is not happening right now. And those feelings trigger those disease genes and weigh down our spirit and we can physically be weighted down as a result. The key is to take the needle off the record when these thoughts and emotions surface.

Pay Attention To Mind, Body and Soul

How many of you pay attention to your mind, body, soul, atmosphere, surroundings, nature, the Spirit, praying all day as you interact with others, information and yourself? Many of us have routine lives where we live a lot of our life on auto-pilot. How often do you get in the car and arrive at your destination without remembering a thing because you were thinking about the disagreement you got into with your spouse last night?

This is how it is with thoughts and feelings. We can control how our mind, body and soul reacts to outside circumstances by doing the stop, pause, pray method. Stop in that moment when you feel that emotion ready to overcome you. It is so important to slow down and pause. Too often we auto-pilot ourselves into that emotion because when we think of that person, place, event or situation we have always allowed ourselves to linger in that emotion and therefore slowly kill our mind, body and soul.

Now it’s time to pray, either deliverance prayers or just speaking to the Holy Spirit for some peace, even laughing at the emotion. Remember, your body doesn’t know that the event didn’t happen now, it’s just responding the way you have trained it to respond. So, like you do a dog, pull it back and replace that with a different thought and a different emotion – teach your body to react differently.

For example, when you see your boss, you have feelings of resentment. You recall her taking credit for your work, for being too harsh and not giving enough praise. You have trained yourself to have feelings of dislike and maybe even inadequacy in yourself because you cannot make her happy. Now, after five years of working with her, you have been slowly killing yourself with the stress hormones and negative emotions. Please, do not give any person, place, memory, situation, thing or event that kind of power over your life and your eternal soul. You deserve to love yourself and to live as healthy of a life as possible, so let’s do this instead.

Stop – When you see your boss and those feelings start to surface, stop. Think of Jesus walking next to her. Remember that she is broken, too. You don’t know much about her. Was she loved as a child, what is her life like at home, is she as insecure as you, is she afraid to show love? Remember that she is a child of God and like you, just wants to be loved and accepted.

Pause – be aware at what is happening and don’t let it move forward. You may not catch it right away, but the second you do, do not let it progress further. It’s your health and your eternal soul at risk and you will never give that power away.

Pray –

Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, I renounce the spirit of hatred, resentment, unforgiveness, inadequacy and I command you to go to the foot of The Holy Cross for Jesus to pour His precious blood on you and to receive your sentence. Lord, please fill me with the love and mercy of Jesus and Mary.

It’s time for the swap-o-rama. Replace your emotions, think about how Jesus loves you and forgives you and ask Him to open and fill your heart with His. It may be hard in the beginning, but if you work on it, that emotional, spiritual and physical harm you have been doing to yourself will soon be replaced with loving emotions that nurture good growth and restorative genes! Plus, you will open your heart to your boss, who will notice the difference in your demeanor. Who knows what comes next as she begins to feel the love that every human person desires from others. You are now the witness, the evangelizer, the disciple that God commanded you to be.

It is possible to control your thoughts, St. Paul says so! Now go give it a try and let me know how it goes. Next time, we are going to talk about STRESS!

(take every thought captive in obedience to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

  2. I came across your writings while doing a web search for “Catholic Repentance from using marijuana”. I am a practicing Catholic, but I resumed regular use of it in December 2019 (I had used it in college regularly, and then rather irregularly in the years since) when recreational use was opened up in Michigan, once or twice weekly, along with binge drinking. Mortal sins, all.

I have been working to stop those habits since October 2022, and I have had some month-long sober intervals, but I am recently lapsed, and an outbreak of wrath that I had yesterday, while hung over, shocked me to my core.

Everything about it was wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I am thankful I didn’t get a 72 hour hold, for how much I was loudly yelling to myself and to whomever else, inside my house or in my car or elsewhere about politics, and other personal slights I have taken in my life.

Later, I read St. John Bosco’s vision of hell, and saw myself as one of the schoolchildren tumbling into the abyss.

I was and am horrified. Even as recently as a week ago, I was still wistful of the times I got high on a Friday night, listened to the radio, classic rock (the “10 at 10” on 97.1 FM The Drive), jammed with the headphones on to that, or to music that I have composed myself.

I am not wistful now about the drunken and buzzed nights I have wasted away.

I did a search for a list of mortal sins, and found that I had committed or was committing most of them at some point or another, including but not limited to sins of anger, rage, wrath.

I go to confession, periodically, but I haven’t really confessed everything, yet. I pray that I be given the grace to do that, but I need to put a list together.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

    1. Michael, I saw this and immediately prayed for you. I am so inspired by your sharing here and please know I will be thinking of and praying for you by name. We are on a journey together. I found this article and was praying to God as I read it, trying to overcome a stronghold of excessive despair that is so deep, it is affecting others around me who I care about. Anyway, just wanted to share. Don’t give up! The pain is sanctifying us and we can offer it for souls <3

Very well composed – and reminds me of the quote. ” Your intellect may be confused, but
emotions will never lie to you.” Roger Ebert.

    1. Thanks for that, sometimes I could write for DAYS – so hard to keep attention, jam with info and feel enlightened at the same time! HA! God bless you!

    2. Michael, what a comment – I can totally relate – so THE DRIVE – I have listened to that and the Loop (in Chicagoland) and rocked my brains out – how awful to think about some of the lyrics and what I have done to that music. ANYWAY – just keep walking each day – join me on my Soul, Mind and Body Youtube Group – you can feel safe and be in a vulnerable place as I share TOO MUCH INFORMATION about all my struggles and the illuminating ways to fight this battle we live every day! https://www.youtube.com/c/KendraVonEsh

    3. Thanks, hard to jam information, enlightenment and evangelizing in a small article. I could write for days! HA! Thanks again for the supportive comment!
