Today’s profane, pagan secular society says the month of June is for promoting and praising sexual disorder. They say June is Pride Month.
You can’t avoid it, as every minute of every day in June you’ll find “pride” on display. It’s in advertising on TV and in displays in the stores. Sports leagues devote games to it. And city governments even sponsor official “pride parades” that feature naked men on bikes and so-called furries on leashes.
The month-long celebration of homosexuality and other perverted sexual behaviors loudly and proudly promotes disordered sexuality. The Catholic Church, however, defines such behavior as acts of grave depravity, intrinsically disordered, and contrary to the natural law.
“Pride month” celebrations and the institutions, businesses, and people who endorse them are rejoicing in sexual debauchery. They are also giving their ‘seal of approval’ to a lifestyle that directly opposes what God teaches. Society overwhelmingly considered this lifestyle sinful from the beginning of human history until just a few decades ago.
Mocking Christ
By seizing the month of June as a 30-day homage to sexual perversions, the so-called LGBTQIA2S+[i] movement grotesquely mocks authentic Christianity and God’s Truth. They rationalize their actions and revelry by insisting, “It’s fine to live a gay (or lesbian or bisexual or transgender or queer or…) lifestyle because Jesus loves me just the way I am.”
To that I say, yes, Jesus loves sexually disordered people, just as He loves all of God’s children, saint and sinner alike. But He does not want any of us to live out an immoral life. And that means not succumbing to the LGBTQIA2S+ agenda’s belief system.
Jesus also loves the heterosexual adulterer, but He called that type of sexual activity a sin and implored the adulterer to sin no more. He didn’t tell her to go celebrate with “Adultery Pride Month.”
“Pride Month” participants and promoters say they are merely celebrating so-called ‘sexuality identities‘ and ‘sexual diversity.’ But the ultimate end-goal of these rainbow-flag-wavers is to justify their lust and perversion of God’s original design. They also want to convert all of society to share in their moral relativism.
Denying Truth
Moral relativism is the philosophical view that there are no absolutes or objective moral truths. It says that morality is subjective, changeable, and identified by how something makes us feel. The Catholic Church opposes moral relativism for a number of logical, rational reasons. But in the end, if society doesn’t clearly define right and wrong, we head down a slippery slope that eventually leads to the decay of civilization.
In addition, moral relativism is unbiblical. Jesus came into the world to testify to the truth that comes from His Heavenly Father. In John’s Gospel (18:37), Jesus says, “For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.“
It is also written that Jesus taught the Jews saying, “My teaching is not my own but is from the one who sent me. Whoever chooses to do his will shall know whether my teaching is from God or whether I speak on my own. Whoever speaks on his own seeks his own glory, but whoever seeks the glory of the one who sent him is truthful, and there is no wrong in him” (John 7:15-18).
Pride Is a Deadly Sin
It is ironically fitting that the secular world labels June “Pride Month.” Pride is not just one of the seven deadly sins. Saint Thomas Aquinas considers it the first sin and the “greatest of all sins.”
Pride was the first sin ever committed when the fallen angel Satan didn’t want to play second fiddle to God. Pride was the first human sin, committed by Adam and Eve. Pride is when a person places oneself on a higher pedestal than one deserves. It is a deadly sin because in its foremost form, pride is when a person places oneself on a higher pedestal than God.
Pride is also deadly because it cannot stand others who disagree. As pride grows, the proud person feels a need to destroy everyone who disagrees with him or her. This might not be a literal destruction, but it often is in the form of killing reputations through name-calling (“You’re a homophobe!”), killing goodness through hatred, and killing truth through indifference and arrogance.
Thus, we have those who join in the so-called gay pride movement arrogantly thinking more of themselves and less of God. Such people don’t want to hear the truth our Lord has revealed about sexual morality. They brazenly deny the purpose of sexuality being for a husband and wife to join together to create life. And it is not just those people who choose to live a homosexual lifestyle who are sinning.
It is also those who are heterosexual but applaud so-called gay pride. They, too, are basically scoffing at God and declaring they are autonomous and can do whatever they want. They have embraced a false version of reality by believing and promoting the idea that sexual desires for members of the same-sex are natural and good. They are essentially saying, “To hell with God!”
What Can Be Done to Counter?
It is upsetting that most of the culture has transformed the month of June into an occasion to take delight in sexual perversions. But an authentic Christian does not have to sit back and say or do nothing about it.
One way to blot out so-called pride month from your family’s life each June is for you and your kids to refuse to patronize businesses that have embraced perverted sexuality. Through their “rainbow-marketing” signs and promotions, these companies are telling Christ-followers that they don’t matter. So, a perfect response is to not give these businesses your hard-earned money.
A more fulfilling way to shun “Pride Month” is to direct you and your family’s energies toward revitalizing the specialness of June being the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. [i] LGBTQIA2S+ is the latest politically correct acronym used by the culture to describe people who don’t follow the original manner of sexuality as intended by God and who want to be categorized according to their sexual appetites. It will take you a while to look up what all the letters stand for and can be confusing and exasperating to keep up with the ever-increasing alphabet. I use this elongated and incessant acronym purely to magnify its ridiculousness.
