What to Say and How to Say It

Evangelizing can be a tough task. Many of us have faced it. How we have handled it varies. To the vast majority of Catholics evangelizing is a difficult task. Many may not know what to say or how to say it when the time comes to defend their faith or help someone else understand the Catholic faith when they have questions. Thankfully, we have a number of Catholics who are comfortable entering this arena and who do have an ability to speak on the faith. Brandon Vogt is one such individual. His latest book What to Say and How to Say It: Discuss Your Catholic Faith with Clarity and Confidence.

The first thing I must mention is Brandon’s approach in this book. Just because you are defending the faith doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be abrasive. Have you ever heard the term you attract more bees with honey than vinegar? Defending the faith is something like that. The Catholic faith is a beautiful thing. As a convert, the longer I am in the faith the more I grow to appreciate it. We will never bring some home to the Church without being charitable.

The second thing I thought was quite stellar about Brandon’s book is the way it is presented. He has presented a road map for defending the faith. There are seven topics he focuses on which I will list below. Each topic is covered in a chapter. Within each chapter Brandon covers the topic at hand in depth, provides additional books for reading up on the topic, has questions for reflection and discussion in a group setting, finally (and perhaps the best part) he includes practice scenarios to work through. These combined ensure the next time you have one of those water cooler conversations at work you will know how to answer with confidence.

The topics covered are:

Answering Atheism

Evil and Suffering

Trusting the Gospels

Explaining the Eucharist

Abortion

Same-Sex Marriage

Transgenderism

If you have any misgivings about how to defend your faith THIS is the book for you. Written in plain English it places the tools in your hands to be able to explain what the Catholic faith teaches in terms of the topics above. Most importantly Brandon shows you how to it in a loving manner. Step up your game and get your hands on this book.

  1. Defending our faith depends upon the way we choose. Rather than getting engaged in debates or arguments our faith (Catholic Faith) must be exposed to the world through how we live our life.
By the by what is Catholic Faith?
Faith means “a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control the Universe and human destiny”
Catholic Faith means the belief in all the teachings of Roman Catholic Church Headed by the Pope in Rome.
Some of our pivotal points of faith are:
    1. Jesus Christ the Son of Mary and Joseph is the Son of God, the Second person of Holy Trinity.
    2. The perpetual virginity of Mary which is the doctrine that Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, was a virgin before, during and after the birth of Christ—(ante partum, in partum, et post-partum).
    3. Holy Trinity.
    4. Holy Bible especially the New Testament that contains the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
I believe fully in all the four facts noted above and all the teachings of Roman Catholic Church. Or, let me say boldly, I have full faith in all of them. Strong faith will never make one nervous and cause him to retract but, instead, will prompt him to prove them at any forum anywhere, either by way of his life or scientifically even.
