Satan Visits the Olympics

fire, hate, The Olympics, Hell

Many of us celebrated the Eucharistic Revival this past July. It was clearly a statement for Jesus Christ, our faith, and our Church.

The Revival showed the world the ‘source and summit” of our faith. Hopefully it also served to evangelize for what we believe. It ended on a positive note of enthusiasm and hope.

Then came the Paris Olympics opening ceremonies. The sacrilegious presentation and parody of the last supper by a bunch of drag queens was blasphemous. It was an opposite and sick commentary to that which is considered sacred.

Clergy, as well as non-religious and just plain folks, have all written opinion essays on the presentation. The essays have been an outpouring of condemnation. To these essays I can add nothing.

In Cahoots with the Devil

I would, however, offer the following reflection. In a previous post I noted how the vitriolic screaming and negativity expressed by pro-abortion advocates at our pro-life vigils can make one think of the devil’s minions.

I would propose that the Paris drag queens and their supporters were definitely in cahoots with that same evil. I would suggest that Satan and his evil spirits influenced the drag queen show. He had to.

The timing of the outrage in Paris, coming so close on the Eucharistic Revival, is no coincidence. It also happened on the same weekend when the Gospel readings at Mass begin to focus on Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse.

The Eucharistic Congress was a display of the love, devotion, and the positive power of Jesus Christ’s true presence. The drag queen participants and supporters collaborated with evil to put on their show.  They presented an alternative display of narcissism and sexually degenerate lifestyles.

The devil had to try to offset the positive influence of the Eucharistic Revival. What better way than to mock the image of the last supper – the institution of the Eucharist.

On one level I would say the devil’s efforts backfired. It clearly demonstrated to the world the contrast between the positive images that the Eucharistic Revival showed and the negative sexually corrupt images that the drag queens showed.

Satan’s Real

It’s neither popular nor vogue to accept the fact that there is an evil presence in the world, or that there is an entity we call Satan or the devil. For example, I was trained in the scientific method and what would be called empiricism.  Such methodology provides a serious rationale for a denial that there can be a Satan.

Yet, my real-world experiences have shown to me, beyond any shadow of a doubt, there is an evil presence in this world. Besides my personal experiences all I have to do is look at world history, holy scripture, theology, and the Catechism that attest to this reality. More significantly, Jesus speaks of the devil’s existence and effects in all four gospels. (Mt 4:1-10, and 25:41, Mk 5:1-13, Lk 10:17-19 and Jn 8:44).

A Contrast in Modeling: Humility versus Exhibitionism

The Olympics drag queen display is offensive to Catholics and other Christians.  But rather than sit back and be passively upset over the Paris event we should use it as a “teachable” and evangelization moment.

St. Vincent DePaul said, “The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility.” The Eucharistic Revival was about showing our humility in the face of the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. It was a positive model for all to see.

The drag queen display at the Paris Olympics was an opposite model for all to see. It showed Satan’s workings in the world that influences the practice of exhibitionism, arrogance, and vanity. More pointedly, it showed mockery and disdain for Christ and Christianity.

Many have posed the question of what’s next after the Eucharistic Congress? The answer most given is to “go out on mission.” This is the same mission we receive when we receive Jesus at mass. Humble opportunities abound from serving the poor and practicing the acts of mercy.

Another avenue is to share our beliefs with others. Discussing the Paris event and the previously mentioned distinctions in our conversations and writings can help to clarify and make visible the spiritual battle lines we all are in. It is just one example of those differences.

Meaningful questions can be raised. Which model and lifestyle does one choose to emulate and follow? Who do you want as your neighbor? Which model offers love, hope, and positive relationships? Many more questions can be discussed using the drag queen display as the context.

  1. The closing ceremony is just as bad. Lucifer descending into a dystopian World with no joy and “Greys” which are basically Anchors. picking over the remains of humanity. It’s not even disguised anymore.

We also have power. Unfortunately, we find ourselves consumed with frustration, anger, and judging every one of them! Perhaps if we all said one Hail Mary for each one of them, they might have a doorway to some fresh air of the Holy Spirit, and let Jesus do the judging?
God made every one of them out of His Love, lets try to wake it up! Dcn. Denny

  3. In response to the Eucharistic Congress and the positive reaction and revival of devotion to the Most Holy Eucharist, the devil of course had to to do something about it. The Vatican ignored the blasphemy at first, then Archbishop Paglia had to come forward with an outrageous explanation suggesting that ‘all are welcome at the table and don’t we all want to be there’, or words to that effect.

We need to stop only protesting among ourselves, writing in catholic publications, podcasts, etc., and let the pope himself know of our displeasure in ways that he cannot ignore – street protests with signs and Rosary rallies, emails, mail – millions of letters, an IMMEDIATE response from ALL Catholics – families, parishes, catholic groups, young people, clergy, editors, etc. who see the erosion of the truth – a veritable deluge of protests he cannot ignore, such as would be seen had islam been slighted. I think that if we seriously do not fight against these blasphemies (one church displays two golden calves in glass cases on each side of their altar), there are pride dances on stilts at another church’s altar, clergy as DJ rapping instead of a choir, drag shows at another, people are refused communion if they wish to take it on the tongue, the Latin Rite Mass is being banned because it brings many families and youth to the reverence and solemnity of the Mass and many vocations are realized and others outrages as well. We all have to step forward in unity now while we still can, and before it is too late, to organize and coordinate a swift response around the world. I did write and email but I am only one in many millions, no longer young but still a fighter for my Catholic faith.

  5. With the rash of church burnings and church vandalism in recent years occuring in France and the LA Dodgers’ tribute to “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence”, it naturally follows that a government/secular sanctioned descaration of the Eucharist would be promoted. I don’t think Christians are over-reacting to their concerns of “what next” in the Olympic escalation of this demonic battle.

  6. Even when the the Olympics were held in Berline, Germany during the Nazis reign, such mockery of Christ and His Church was not displayed. Another sign that we are living in the End Times, thus we daily pray; “Come Lord Jesus! Come quickly! Amen.”

  7. The Olympics have been a pagan even before the birth of Christianity. Why would anyone expect anything different than paganism???

    1. I would have to agree. Give the people a circus so they will not revolt. Well we ain’t takin it no more.
The 2012 Olympics was a full display of the fake plandemic. They/them have to tell us what they plan to do. God allows it. We need to pray and respond.

  8. Thank you!
I also have to point out that Taylor Swift is coming to Lucas Oil Stadium during election season for 3 nights and will desecrate what has been consecrated. We need to protest!

  9. I am not surprised at what happened at the
Opening Ceremony . It’s ok to vilify Catholicism in secular Europe. But I shudder to think what would have happened if a certain prophet from another faith had been satirized in a similar way !
