Is the Church Now Okay with Heresy?

Of course not!

God entrusted the Catholic church with safeguarding the truth that sets us free.

Incredulity is the neglect of revealed truth or the willful refusal to assent to it.

Heresy is the obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith, or it is likewise an obstinate doubt concerning the same; apostasy is the total repudiation of the Christian faith; schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him (Catechism, #2089).

The only reason to believe anything is because it is true!  Our thoughts and misconceptions matter, because truth/doctrine matters.  Heresy (and/or ignoring truth), especially by Catholic leaders, is a grave injustice.

We are not talking about preferred flavors of ice cream!  Jesus made clear that He is the way, the truth, and the life.

The Arian Heresy

A 2020 two part article is very instructive and left me wishing I was its author!  I will settle with it being penned by another “Joseph T.”

Arianism…stresses a belief in God the Father at the expense of the Trinity, the doctrine of three distinct persons in one Godhead ….Bishops and clerics at this time [i.e., its fourth century, A.D. heyday] found it beneficial to their careers to go along with the “powers that be.” It appears a similar political and theological connection is occurring today. Many governments are accepting the LGBT culture and supporting it in their laws. Divorce and cohabitation are also warmly accepted, as well as the rejecting of Judeo-Christian values as the basis of…legal structures. The theological left and political left are forming a bond and looking to force their heterodoxy on the Catholic faithful and the world (The Arian Heresy and Its Relation to Our Present Age — Part 1 & 2 – Inside The Vatican)

Way back in that fourth century A.D., even bishops were succumbing to the Arian heresy!  Let me say that again: successors of the apostles fell prey!  In modern Germany, up to 90% of Roman Catholic bishops- also successors of the apostles – are reported to condone same sex relations (cf, Edward Pentin, 6/30/25).

Misuse of Human Sexuality

While our era did not invent misuse of human sexuality, it appears to be our most pervasive and enduring heresy:

so much confusion about marriage/family/human sexuality and bioethics has a starting place….

The lifelong, always open to life, marriage of one man and one woman is the ONLY place for conjugal relations.  Each human has the right to originate in this loving embrace.  Yet no matter how she came to be, she is owed absolute protection and respect. Lifelong, always open to life, marriage of one man and one woman is the ONLY place for conjugal relations.  Each human has the right to originate in this loving embrace.  Yet no matter how she came to be, she is owed absolute protection and respect. (Catholic Stand, 1/24/25)

This heresy is revisiting us, in spite of heroics like St. Pope John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” on marriage/family/human sexuality!

When an unclean spirit goes out of a person it roams through arid regions searching for rest but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my home from which I came.’ But upon returning, it finds it empty, swept clean, and put in order. Then it goes and brings back with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they move in and dwell there; and the last condition of that person is worse than the first. Thus it will be with this evil generation.” (Matthew 43-45)

When evil gets thrown out, it needs to be replaced with God’s love.

Till Someone Gets Hurt!

Long before Charlie Kirk began defending the sanctity of preborn human life and the sanctity of permanent, open-to-life marriage between one man and one woman, those sanctities were being attacked and those promoting these sanctities were labeled as bigots.  It appears Charlie Kirk has now paid with his life.

Conclusion

Diane Montagna reports that an International Catholic Coalition Calls On Pope Leo XIV to Revoke Fiducia Supplicans.  To correct misleading statements and actions, immediate and additional action is needed by Pope Leo XIV across a variety of areas:

  • …acknowledge that Pope Francis’ treaty with Communist China was disastrous and effectively abandoned faithful Catholics in China…
  • Pope Francis (and the vast majority of the world) effectively ignored the plight of the incredibly devout Nigerian Catholics being slaughtered by Islamists.
  • Pope Francis played favorites with grossly unqualified and heterodox Jesuits like James Martin and Tucho Fernandez.  He made the latter a cardinal & point man for the doctrine of the faith.  Former Jesuit Marko Rupnik has been allowed to continue as a priest despite voluminous sexual allegations against nuns!
  • I have long been a reader of the annual addresses from the Holy Father to the Roman Rota.  In more recent addresses, I thought that both St Pope JP II & Pope B 16 showed fear of incorrect declarations of nullity.  Rather than follow such concerns of his predecessors, Pope Francis expediated these same processes.  CHILDREN ARE THE ULTIMATE VICTIMS of MARITAL BREAKUP.
  • Pope Francis suppressed the Latin Mass & sneekily tried to equate gay couples with Holy Matrimony (Catholic365, 5/9/25).

Largely owing to de facto rejection of the sanctity of preborn human life and the sanctity of permanent, open-to-life marriage between one man and one woman, bioethical confusion is also in play (i.e., in areas such as transgenderism, embryo transfers, brain death criteria, induced pluripotent stem cells, and cooperation in evil acts) (Catholic Stand, 7/8/25).

Holy Father hear us!  God help us!

Wrong question – Are Catholics okay with it. It seems so.

    1. Ordinary P,
I am not really clear on your point….
However, if you are saying that some Catholic leaders are letting heresy slide, I sadly have to agree. They seem to be oblivious to the harmful effects of heresy.

    2. an ordinary papist

No, JT, I meant the 7 of 10 Catholics who no longer participate don’t relate to being called heretics or damned. It’s an archaic term to use in a modern world of melding, merging faiths.

    1. Ordinary P,

Glad that u are talking more clearly….

U are missing out on us being supremely blessed with a God who is ready to forgive ANYTHING for which we are truly sorry! Rather than “a modern world of melding, merging faiths,” focus on the one true faith.
