Is a Great ‘Warning’ for Mankind Really Imminent?

existence, light, end times, Warning, darkness

The Catholics who developed the website “Countdown to the Kingdom” say we are living in the “end times.”

But before you jump to any conclusions, know that these folks also say the “end times” began right after the Resurrection.  So, ever since Christ’s Resurrection mankind has been in the end times, waiting for the Second Coming.  And this actually makes sense.  If the end of the “end times,” is the Second Coming, we are certainly at some point on the end times road.

However, Mark Mallett, along with Catholic speaker, author, and radio and television host Christine Watkins, and Daniel O’Connor, author and Professor of Philosophy, State University, NY, have developed a timeline that suggests we may be farther down this road than some think.  The timeline they put forth is the focus of their website Countdown to the Kingdom, launched in March 2020.

Before going any further, I want to point out that this article is not an endorsement of all the views and opinions expressed at Countdown to the Kingdom.  CS’s only connection with Mark Mallett is a reprint of his “Open Letter to the Catholic Bishops,” from Mallett’s personal blog “The Now Word,” on October 19, 2021.

Countdown Website

There’s a great deal of information to absorb at “Countdown to the Kingdom.”  In addition to written explanations of the timeline there are messages from 18 Catholic seers/mystics, an array of videos and podcasts explaining the timeline, and re-posts of articles from Mallett’s “The Now Word” website.

Because of all of the information offered, Countdown can be a bit daunting to navigate.  Perhaps the best way to understand the information being presented is to scroll down to the Timeline section and click on “Read Full Timeline.”  Then read each section and watch the video at the end of the section.

Realize, however, that a thorough review of the Timeline will take some time.  The Timeline consists of 17 sections and some of the videos run up to an hour in length.

A Highly Abbreviated Version

According to Countdown’s timeline, the road to the Second Coming has two distinct segments.  Countdown calls the first segment of this road The Door of Mercy / Labor Pains.  The second segment of the road is The Door of Justice / The Day of the Lord.

The whole of the timeline is presented as a great storm that is engulfing mankind, and Countdown says we may be coming to the center of this storm.  It suggests that mankind may now be on the very edge of the “eye wall” of this Storm – the center point between the two sections of the road to the end times.

Countdown suggests that the first segment of the timeline – The Door of Mercy – may be closing soon, and we are now experiencing the Labour Pains.  This reasoning, and the entire timeline, draws from Revelation, numerous private revelations of a number of Catholic seers/mystics, the interpretations of the writings of some of the early Doctors of the Church, the statements and writings of some Popes, and current events.

The Seven Seals

According to the timeline, the first of the seven seals (Revelation 6), referred to as the Time of Mercy, was opened some time ago.  Seals two through five have since been opened as well.

The signs that these seals have been opened can be seem everywhere, say Mallett and O’Connor:

  • Peace Shattered (the Second Seal) occurred with 9/11 and all the events that have followed;
  • Economic Collapse (the Third Seal) began some time ago and has accelerated since the Pandemic hit;
  • Social Collapse (the Fourth Seal) is evident throughout the world, as can be seen by mankind’s legalization of abortion and same sex ‘marriage,’ artificial contraception, pornography, euthanasia, the denial of biological sexuality, the re-emergence of communism in the guise of ideologies, and violence from social unrest;
  • Persecution (the Fifth Seal) of Christians and the Church is taking place all over the world.

And according to Countdown, we are quickly approaching the time of the breaking open of the sixth seal – The Warning.

The Warning

This Warning is referred to as an “Illumination of Conscience.”  But this term was not coined by Countdown.  It is the term a number of mystics/seers have given to The Warning.

According to Countdown, this Illumination of Conscience will be a:

“watershed moment in time when all the light from the sun will be extinguished and a thick darkness will blanket the entire world.  Then a brilliant light, much like the two stars colliding, will appear in the sky, leaving behind it a sign of Jesus Christ, triumphant on the cross, visible to all in His glory. . . . All will see their past sins and the consequences of those sins, whether or not they believe in the existence of God.”

While The Warning sounds like the end of the world, it is not.  It will really only be a terrifying experience for those who are not in a state of grace.

CS writer Edward Benet briefly described the Warning in the second part of his two-part article on Garabandal. The seer Luz De Maria has described it as well:

“The WARNING will be for those who are not with God a terrible moment, unbearable in which they would end up placing themselves in the hands of the demon, who with its demoniac legions, will encircle the souls and accuse them of their sins in which they live and tell them that God will not forgive them.

“For those who are lukewarm, it will be the moment of repentance, of grace, because when they understand their error, they will ask forgiveness and will convert, and for those who are in grace, they will be filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit.”

A Reprieve

“This warning that is coming,” says Mallett, “you have to understand, it is a warning that precedes the cleansing and purification of the entire world.”

Following The Warning, the seventh seal, The Reprieve, will be opened.  This is the Eye of the Storm, a time of calm.  This reprieve will, according to Countdown, be “an hour of  decision.  According to the mystics, God will grant a Reprieve – some say only weeks – when the devil will be restrained or “blinded,” and people will have complete freedom to choose or reject God.”

At some point following The Warning a great miracle will take place in Garabandal, in Medjugorje, and in Mexico City, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where Juan Diego’s tilma is and where Our Lady appeared to him.  These miracles will serve as proof that we have received a Divine Intervention in our lives.

Once the miracle takes place, mankind crosses the mid-point in the road and enters a time of The Refuges. Sometime after this come The Chastisements, with the Reign of the Anti-Christ following the Chastisements.

Chastisements Usher in an Era of Peace

The Chastisements will be followed by Three Days of Darkness with “all of hell being unleashed upon earth.”  But these days of darkness will be a Purification which will then usher in The Era of Peace.

Mallett draws on the writing of Luisa Piccarreta, a lay woman and seer from Italy who died over 70 years ago, to describe this time of peace.  (Note that this time of peace is not the Second Coming.)  According to Piccarreta, it is simply a time during which “creation will be renewed” and “[t]here will be a superabundance even of natural goods, and all will be happy.”  In short, it will be a time of triumph for the Church.

But evil will return to the world one more time.  This will result in “the last great battle of the ages between good and evil.  This will take place before the end of the world” and The Second Coming.

Food for Thought

As stated, this article is not an endorsement of all the views expressed at Countdown to the Kingdom.  Mallett and his collaborators may or may not be correct in their interpretations of “the signs.”  They may also be wrong about how the signs relate to scripture, and where we stand on the timeline.  They, do however, affirm that the power of prayer can have a significant impact on what is to come and when it may happen.

At the same time, they could be correct that The Warning – the Illumination of Conscience – is imminent.  If so, it behooves Catholics, other Christians, to understand what it portends and even how some may react.

As Christine Watkins explained in an interview with Pete Socks about her book The Warning: Testimonies and Prophecies of the Illumination of Conscience, non-believers will try to explain away such an event.  They will probably say it was some kind of mass hypnotic hysteria.  They may even say this was caused by solar flares or some other astronomical phenomenon.

But even if Countdown’s timeline is not correct, Mallett and O’Conner continually offer good advice.  Go to Confession and get in a state of grace.;  Pray the Rosary, consecrate your lives to Jesus Christ and take refuge in the Immaculate Heart of Mary our Mother.

  1. Hello, and thanks for this. I am a fan of Mark Mallet, and Dr. Dan, but he gently left the project and that explanation can be found at his blog. I love both of these men for their faith.
Most of the seers and mystics presented at Countdown to the Kingdom are legit I think, and approved by holy priests, some deceased. I go their every day, though my real project here in Central Minnesota is promoting the end of the line for private revelation, which is Fatima, and what the Blessed Mother there as Our Lady of Fatima offered to the tiny previous children in terms of warnings, requests, and prophecies for these days.

    1. The website accepts Fr. Michel Rodrigue as one such mystic. I have nothing against him – he’s very personable and funny when he thinks in French but speaks in English.

OK, I may have a bone of contention: he’s guilty of false prophecy. Check this out: The False Prophecies of Fr. Michel Rodrigue.

If the The Warning: Testimonies and Prophecies of the Illumination of Conscience site gives a pass to Fr. Rodrigue, then I must hold the other “mystics” under suspicion.

In fact, I question any Catholic approach regarding the end times seeking to one-up Protestant Dispensationalism. We must discern much better than what we seem to be doing.

      In Christ,

  2. A comment by “Kyle” on this article was deleted because defamation of character remarks will always be deleted. Kyle’s comment accused the author of being uncharitable toward people (name-calling) in articles. This is not so. Mr. Van Son has written almost 100 articles for CS, and he has never called anyone names. The only derogatory statement he has made about any individual was a statement made about Hilary Clinton, in a 2016 article, which was backed up with specific examples.

    1. What about Peter Coffin who commonly calls people “liars” and “cowards”? It seems that you have two different standards for writers and commenters. The writers can call names and delete comments, while the commenters cannot. All participants should abide by the same rules whether commentators or writers.

    2. Melanie,
This is a comment from your own website:

Fr. Pacholczyk is not saying what you seem to think he is saying. As such, I can only conclude that 1) you have a reading comprehension problem, or 2) you take undue delight in trying to sow confusion by deliberately trying to twist words while ignoring other words to make them mean what you want them to mean, or 3) you are just another troll. This exchange is done.

How is this comment not personal or insulting or even name calling?

    3. Cato, allow me clear up the confusion. Kyle tried to make the same argument three times. I charitably corrected him three times. He tried to make the same argument a fourth time. At that point it was necessary to be brutally honest.

    4. Point taken as you continue to delete my comments?

I thought deleting reasonable comments was pretty low, but modifying them to say something opposite is a new low. Congrats on finding a way to lower the bar.

    5. To be clear, I have never modified any of your comments. My managing editors are also perplexed because none of them have altered your replies either. Just so you know, authors do not have the ability to alter comments. Perhaps you edited a reply yourself and forgot you had modified your thoughts? I have no other explanation.

I try not to delete your comments, even if they are antagonistic. I commend you for taking the time to express your disagreements but please remember that CS values fruitful, back-and-forth dialogue based on mutual respect rather than belligerent attacks.

You consistently rail against our writers with insulting rants, unwarranted challenges, and verbal nastiness that goes far beyond the pale of anything we could call Christian charity. Some of our writers are heroically patient with you but that doesn’t mean I should allow you to run roughshod over every third article and spew dissenting, anti-Catholic rhetoric.

Please tone it down or risk being banned from the site. Often your comments are totally counterproductive and almost always provoke anger. I hate to see our writers wasting their time with long answers to someone who seems to only want to pick fights. That’s not fair to them.

Even when commenting on seemingly uncontroversial articles on matters of spirituality, you just keep coming back with comments that are completely off-topic. In spite of continued, charitable, tactful reminders that articles are not about what you claim them to be, you continue to argue in circles.

    6. an ordinary papist

Just an FYI, one of my comments on Joe T’s recent column was greatly altered within hours
after being posted. My reply “Cute.” reflected dull surprise mostly but it was a first; a ghost
      in the machine perhaps.

    7. I honestly don’t understand what happened. I did not edit your comment and none of my managing editors, nor the owner of the site changed anything. Writers only have the ability to edit their own comments.

  3. Those of us whose competence by virtue of study and education in history and social science, can probably make a pretty good case in a purely secular manner for the thread of happenings cited in this article. In fact some are manifest now. However, to put timing in perspective, it should be noted that history is replete with similar occurrences thus demonstrating the truth of Santayana’s comment.

  4. Isn’t what’s portrayed here the Catholic version of Protestant dispensationalism? Calls for repentance and conversion aside, do this speculation yield objective information about the escathon?

I must remain a sympathetic skeptic before all these claims.

  5. Throughout history there have been supernatural apparitions and signs which go to the heart of human events and which, to the surprise of believers and non-believers alike, play their part in the unfolding of history….This too is the message of Fatima which, with its urgent call to conversion and penance, draws us to the heart of the Gospel…Fatima is undoubtedly the most prophetic of modern apparitions.

    —————————-
Above is an excerpt from the official Vatican response to the Fatima apparition.
In all the apparitions deemed “constat de supernaturalitate” and “worthy of belief” (human belief not supernatural faith) the purpose of Mary’s intercession is to share the heart of the Gospel message, conversion and penance. Also, to share the truth OUR prayers and fasting can contribute (to some degree) to the ultimate Salvation of others.

What’s more important than Salvation? Nothing. Mary’s intercession reminds us of this, regardless if the reminder comes in a miracle, prayer, plea or warning.

  7. The Black Death, or the Holocaust, or World War II, were more convincing “warnings”. More so than making same sex marriage legal. In my lifetime the threat or nuclear annihilation was a warning and now, more seriously, global warming.

  8. Scripture points to a reign of Christ on this earth after He returns, but prior to the new heaven and the new earth (see Revelation 20).
Satan is bound during this period of time. The Church is not mentioned.

  9. People have been predicting the end times since before Jesus. The earliest Christians were convinced the end times were coming right after Jesus ascended. And there have been individuals predicting the imminent end ever since. At some point, I would’ve thought we’d figure out these people are loony. They don’t know when the world is ending because God didn’t intend for us to know. Eventually the world will end, and whoever happens to be predicting the end times at that point will technically be correct. There is no point putting any stock into predictions like this. Prepare and live like your personal end is tomorrow which is much more likely (and important) than the actual end times coming.

    1. The folks at Countdown to the Kingdom are not predicting the end of the world, and calling them “loony” is not very Christian. I would be willing to bet they would agree with you that only God knows when the world will end, and that they would also agree with you the we should all “live like your personal end is tomorrow.”
