And the Lord said, “Whom Shall I Send?”

truth, compassion

Many people of faith have responded to this call over the centuries. To serve God with the unique gifts that He gave them. But far fewer of these were called by the Lord to enter the belly of the beast. Such was the calling received by Charlie Kirk. A man who loved the Lord with his whole being. The gifts that God had bestowed upon him for this calling were truly extraordinary. Some would say generational; a one of a kind.

Charlie saw better than most that college campuses were a hotbed of revolutionary ideologies that were not being challenged nor the merits of these ideologies debated. Like Pope St. John Paul II before him, Charlie recognized the future of our civilization rested with young people.

While there are varying strains of these subversive ideologies, they all have common features which align adherents of these various ideologies in support of a common agenda. These features include, but are not limited to, a deep hatred of God (especially Christ), family, and country.

They have been principally promoted on campuses by far-left ideological professors who foster an environment of intolerance towards any opposing viewpoints. Labeling such counter viewpoints as “hate speech” oftentimes without a rationale for such characterization.

If you believe in such allegations aimed at Charlie, I challenge you to see for yourself whether such claims are warranted by watching some of Charlie’s YouTube recordings. Recall how Riley Gaines was violently attacked on a campus for her planned speech on keeping men out of women’s sports or Jewish students singled out and terrorized for their faith.

Charlie, among others, strongly felt that if this extremist indoctrination of our young people was left unopposed the grievous errors of these ideologies would have grave consequences.

Their dangerous actions are being intentionally directed at tearing down all that is good in our society. Replacing the principles of our Republic, and with it our freedoms, with an ideological communism. Their ultimate aims will be to outlaw our faith in and worship of God, the destruction of the nuclear family and our country, while replacing these with the all-powerful Party and the State.

Charlie saw it as his mission from God to go into this hostile environment to save souls for Christ. Armed solely with the natural gifts the Lord gave him; Charlie’s efforts bore abundant fruit.

Charlie was murdered not only because he opposed these far-left radical ideologies while presenting a message of hope; but principally because he was so very effective at doing so. By deconstructing these ideologies he revealed what they really are, a totalitarianism wrapped in intolerance and ruthlessness. Through his efforts Charlie changed the hearts and minds of many young people across the world.

As I’ve said, Charlie did so by utilizing the extraordinary God-given talents the Lord bestowed upon him. I would describe the most significant of these as his intellectual capacity, his extraordinary oratory skills, his genuine goodness and affability, but most especially his love of God, family and country. Each of these in turn served to reinforce the effectiveness of the other three.

His assassination brought about two very different reactions. Deep sadness by most and adulation by those that I can only describe as demented and malformed in their humanity. In the present hour, our country and for that matter our world are deeply divided.

How can we fix this? In problem-solving one needs to address the root cause of the problem, not per se its symptoms. And in my view the principal problem our society faces is the rejection of objective truth along with its moral absolutes. For more information on this subject, I wrote an article entitled “What is Truth? A Modern Day Tower of Babel Story“.

In my opinion, no effective dialogue towards a reconciliation on a societal basis can be had to resolve our differences so long as our current dialogue remains embedded in subjective truth or as others would describe it, relativism. It is this misguided belief in a subjective truth, on the part of many, that enables that mindset to justify that which can’t be justified within the context of objective Truth. In this case, the murder of an innocent person who only sought to have dialogue with an opposing viewpoint.

Charlie was a loving husband and father to his wife Erika and their two children. But that did not dissuade Charlie from entering into the belly of the beast time and time again. Afterall, he was responding to the Lord’s call “Whom shall I send?” Charlie had a deep conviction that this was his calling. I recently read that Charlie turned down a position in the current administration believing he could do more good by staying the course.

But Charlie was well aware of the dangers he faced, though Love impelled him to carry on. In a podcast recorded on June 29, 2025, he was asked for which he hoped he would be most remembered. In hindsight, how prescient that question was! Charlie responded by saying “having courage in defending my faith.”

Charlie was a martyr for Truth and free speech, just as his Savior had been two thousand years ago. Christ was put to death for many of the same reasons that Charlie was assassinated for. Christ was executed principally for what he said. Christ spoke the Truth to power and that power hated Him for what He proclaimed.

Charlie was hated for shedding light on the fallacies contained in these radical ideologies. As more and more students were persuaded by Charlie’s arguments and line of reasoning, the adherents to these ideologies witnessed how their insidious efforts were being undermined largely by the efforts of one man.

Jesus told His disciples,

Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit (John 12:24).

Charlie worked tirelessly to bring Turning Point USA (TPUSA) to college campuses and high schools in the form of local chapters. At the time of his death there were 900 official college chapters and 1,200 high school chapters of TPUSA in operation. As amazing as that feat is; (starting with nothing, no money nor chapters at its founding by Charlie in 2012), it pales in comparison to what is coming.

In the days subsequent to his assassination, TPUSA has received more than 54,000 inquiries from young people interested in forming a new chapter. That’s more than a twenty-five-fold increase over the number of chapters established in the first thirteen years of its existence. What an extraordinarily abundant harvest of good fruit! I can think of no better example of Jesus’ words in action.

Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.

Charlie was one grain of wheat and by his life and death produced a great harvest for the LORD! I’m quite sure Charlie heard those words we all long to hear upon our own death.

Well done good and faithful servant, enter your Master’s joy!
