What is God’s Will for Your Life?

freeing, religious

It is true that God works in mysterious ways, which is one of the reasons why His will may not always be so clear to us.  If we try to look at our lives from God’s perspective, however, we would soon realize that He sees the bigger picture. He can see everyone’s thoughts, words, actions, and intentions. When something seems like it “does not work out for us,” maybe God wants us to be patient for something even greater or perhaps He is even protecting us from something that would have been harmful to us.

Becoming Saints

The fact of the matter is that God is the Author of life, and He created each one of us with a special purpose that is something only we were created to do. In other words, God’s creation of each soul brings into the world a saint in the making, of which our life on earth tells the story. So what must each of us do to become the unique saint God calls us to be? We must stay true to our Catholic Faith. How do we do this? We stay true by participating in the sacraments. It is our duty to keep our souls pure by going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is only with a pure soul that we can worthily receive the Eucharist. Furthermore, the Eucharist should be the center of our lives. As Saint John Vianney said, “There is nothing so great as the Eucharist. If God had something more precious, He would have given it to us.” We must also keep our faith burning for Christ by having a personal relationship with Him through prayer. Whether it is by praying a rosary or quietly listening to the Holy Spirit, we should always bring Christ to mind throughout our day. Think of Him often and He will be with you.

Personally, I love to spend quiet time with the Lord and just listen. Whatever is on my mind I bring to the Lord Jesus. As His Most Sacred Heart burns for love of me, my heart beats for love of Him. He truly brings me so much peace and joy whenever I come to Him with any burdens or questions. And trust me, I have so many questions for the Lord concerning His will for my life. I know that through the sacraments and prayer, He will answer all of them in His time.

Guidance from Our Mother

One point for us to consider is that if we want to ask guidance from someone who knows Jesus very intimately, we should ask for the Blessed Virgin Mary’s intercession. She is not only the mother of Jesus, but she is the perfect example of surrendering herself to God the Father’s will. Saint Luke’s Gospel includes the following statement about Our Blessed Mother:

“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” Luke 1:45

The Blessed Virgin Mary placed her whole trust in the Lord. Mary lived the life she was meant to live on earth, and she now assists us in Heaven. She is a contemplative soul that embraced her faith. We should honor her and emulate her virtues in our own individual lives. By following her example, we are on the right path towards Jesus through the holy protection and care of his loving mother.

Biblical Instruction

When you are trying to meditate on God’s will for your life, reflecting on the biblical quotes listed below can be helpful.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not; In all your ways be mindful of Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 2:5,6

“I command you: be firm and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

“It is the LORD who marches before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

“And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.” Philippians 1:9,10

“Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2

“But as it is written: What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
