It’s Time to Pray as a Nation

“[I]f then my people, upon whom my name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

So What Brought That Outburst On Anyhow?

It is relatively easy to understand.  We have been trough a rather dirty and heavily contested election cycle, about two dozen, major and minor party, candidates started.  Sufficient mud had been thrown to fill the great pyramid of Giza several times.  But now, we have a new president, if you were hoping for either a democrat or republican or other, no longer matters, the way our system works, we have a new president.

It is time for us as a Nation to bless God and thank Him for all He has done for us since we began this adventure as a republic some 241 years ago.  He has brought us through the war for independence, the bloodiest war we ever fought and yet called a civil war ( a civil war would start from the bottom up rather than from the top down ), two world wars, several police actions, and dozens of conflicts in locations all around the globe.  He has been with us at each step, and we, the United States, still stand.

We Have Turned our Collective Backs on God

Now, over the last fifty years of so, we have turned our collective backs on the One who has been with us from the start. Some 50,000,000 or more children have been ripped out of their warm, safe homes and destroyed. Some due to significant health issues, but man simply because a child would be inconvenient at this time.

The Federal Government “pays” abortion providers hundreds of millions of dollars each year to kill large numbers of their citizens.  How does this make any sense at all? The Government pays a facility to rip Azalea out of her mother’s womb and keeps her out of school, keeps her from voting, and keeps her from publishing the paper which will be used to help cure cancer.

Of the children who survived the period since the early 1970’s, thousands have been to and through the criminal justice system ( for a variety of reasons, and not simply because they were born ), and given extremely high rates of recidivism, many of those thousands are repeat clients of the care of our states or counties or other jails and prisons.

The murder rates in many of the cities across our land have risen to insane levels, for example, based on data published by the New York Times, only for the year 2015, we find that 294 people were killed in Chicago, 215 in Baltimore, 208 in NYC, and on and on and the rates have presumably only increased in the years since these data were first published.

Given the news reports of the most recent 12 to 18 months, there must have been some sort of pronouncement made that police were to stop wearing their badges and start wearing large targets on their uniforms.

Abortions, murders, police being killed left and right, and Society itself is also under attack…  Marriage, while not yet so defined, is heading toward a legal definition which includes eight women, seven men, two horses, four goats and a parrot living their relationship. Women’s bathrooms and showers being used by males who may wish to get in touch with their feminine sides.

We Need to Turn Back the Clock

No, I am not saying we need to return to an eighteenth century agrarian culture, with no electric lights, cars, modern medical advances and so forth.  What I am advocating is that we take back our Nation using one of the greatest power sources known to mankind — prayer.

I am speaking about very simple, very powerful prayer, without any huge fuss, or without any huge protestations, just simple prayer.  I will give you a quick example…

My wife and I were at a pizza shop when a young girl who was perhaps three but certainly no more than four years old or so, her mother and her grandmother arrived and sat at the table behind us.  The little girl asked he Mom if she could say the prayer. The mother said certainly, and the little girl instructed the others to hold her hands and she began, “Bless us, oh Lord, and these Thy gifts, and lead us not into temptation, and bless this food. Amen.”

When the mother got up from the table, we went over to her and thanked her for teaching her child how to say grace, and allowing her to do it in a public setting. The other people near their table didn’t seem to notice because here, in this geographic location, at the buckle of the Bible belt, public prayer is common and perhaps even expected.  When you pick up your bags and start to leave the grocery store, or the big box stores, the clerk will say something along the lines of  “Thank you for shopping here at XYZ Mega-mega store, and have a blessed day.”

Pray Without Ceasing

If we simply pray each day to say “Thank you” for the beauty of this day, the warmth of the sun, and the songs of the birds, our day will start out on a much more positive note.

Being totally simplistic about it all, others may see our lightened mood and ask why, or how it happened. Now, there may be two people praying, then four, then eight, soon millions.

A heart filled with prayer and the joy it brings has no room for much else.  With millions praying, perhaps the Constitution would be taken on face value.  It says what it says and doesn’t say what it doesn’t say.  If people wish to add something to it, there is a mechanism available to get that done.

The Constitution does not declare marriage to be a union of one man and one woman, simply because at the time it was written, that is all there was in society: Germany, one man, one woman.  England, one man, one woman. Egypt, one man, one woman.  The time in which it was written only knew a marriage as one man and one woman.

When things go right, look up and say “Thank you, God for this wonderful event or item.”  When things go wrong, look up and say, “Thank you God for this item, and help me/us learn from it.”

Pray without ceasing and perhaps more police officers will make it home in time for dinner tonight. Pray without ceasing and perhaps, there will be one fewer abortion.
