The letters of St. Paul and St. John, along with the Book of Revelation speak clearly of a figure of evil who will arise and oppose the Church and deceive Christians everywhere. The anti-Christ is growing as the manifestations of evil spread in the  Church and the world. Where to find the truth. Start with this conversation with renowned Catholic Bible scholar and evangelist Dr. Ralph Martin.

In this Episode You Will Learn
  • The biblical passages where the anti-Christ is mentioned (see below)
  • The various names and forms the anti-Christ will take
  • Signs that we may be entering into the “end of days” at last in a remote way
  • The key difference between “an anti-Christ” (someone who rejects that Jesus came in the flesh) and THE anti-Christ, the Man of Perdition
  • How the papacy of Pope Francis has fed into the confusion and the rumors over what Catholics must believe and do to be saved
  • Sources for clarity, renewal, and tips for keeping your discipleship of Jesus Christ robust and active
Resources Mentioned in this Episode

1 John 2:22

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:3

And every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

1 John 2:18

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this, we know that it is the last hour.

2 John 1:7

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Daniel 7:8

While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.

Matthew 24:24

for false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

Revelation 13:1-10

And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority. I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast.

2 Thessalonians 2:6-10

And you know what restrains him now so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming.

  2. Discussing whether the pope might be the anti-christ? Really? Trying to use fear to push your agenda much?

“Is the pope Catholic” used to be a rhetorical question asked in jest, but I think it might get serious debate on the right. It’s just ludicrous. These factions claim the pope is infallible and God will protect the church, but they then also debate whether the pope is the anti-Christ. Unbelievable.

  3. 2 Peter 3:3-10
    New American Bible (Revised Edition)
3 Know this first of all, that in the last days scoffers will come [to] scoff, living according to their own desires 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? From the time when our ancestors fell asleep, everything has remained as it was from the beginning of creation.” 5 They deliberately ignore the fact that the heavens existed of old and earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God; 6 through these the world that then existed was destroyed, deluged with water. 7 The present heavens and earth have been reserved by the same word for fire, kept for the day of judgment and of destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard “delay,” but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a mighty roar and the elements will be dissolved by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be found out.

  4. Just watched you and Dr. Martin on the podcast about the antichrist. I agree that the Pope is not the antichrist, but he could certainly be the false prophet (Revelation 13). The false prophet will promote the worship of the antichrist and implement the “mark of the beast”.
I totally agree with you and Dr. Martin about the fundamental importance of scriptures, which is why I have a problem with the Catholic Church’s increasing adoration of Mary.
My Catholic Bible contains the words of Jesus to Satan in Matthew 4:10, “Away with you, Satan! Scripture has it: You shall do homage to the Lord your God; him alone shall you adore.”
There is a similar passage in Luke 4:8.

    1. Revelation 13:11-18
      New American Bible (Revised Edition)
11 Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb’s but spoke like a dragon. 12 It wielded all the authority of the first beast in its sight and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been healed. 13 It performed great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of everyone. 14 It deceived the inhabitants of the earth with the signs it was allowed to perform in the sight of the first beast, telling them to make an image for the beast who had been wounded by the sword and revived. 15 It was then permitted to breathe life into the beast’s image, so that the beast’s image could speak and [could] have anyone who did not worship it put to death. 16 It forced all the people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to be given a stamped image on their right hands or their foreheads, 17 so that no one could buy or sell except one who had the stamped image of the beast’s name or the number that stood for its name.
18 Wisdom is needed here; one who understands can calculate the number of the beast, for it is a number that stands for a person. His number is six hundred and sixty-six.

We will know for certain when the false prophet calls down fire from the sky (verse 13).

Question for you. Everyone seems to associate “666” with the antichrist, but this section of Revelation 13 seems to deal with the false prophet. What do you think?

    1. Cato, don’t humiliate yourself with this ego tripping demigod who couldn’t tell the difference between a real name as opposed to one that sounds real.

    2. Wow! I wasn’t offended. I was annoyed by your school marm scolding, and amused by your need to hide behind a fake name — just like super brave “An Ordinary Papist.” This is my last on this. Happy LARPing.

  5. Be charitable: Personal attacks on writers, public figures/the subject of a story, and fellow commenters will not be tolerated. This includes doubting somebody’s faith.
“Fake name coward” sounds like a personal attack to me.
How about following the guidelines of The Catholic Stand?

    1. Interesting comment. I have a respect deficit for those who snipe from behind fake names, “Cato the Elder.” It’s cowardly. Just being factual. (And I obviously didn’t “doubt anyone’s faith.”) As a Christian and a person of reason, I am totally opposed to anon trolls. It’s psychologically bad for the troll (cowardice must be hard to live with) and makes for lopsided discourse. See, if I make a statement online or anywhere else, I stand by it and am accountable because I use my real name. The point is for people to consume Dr. Ralph Martin’s insights here, not spout opinions based on thin air. Thanks for listening.
