I Saw Satan Laughing With Delight…

Satan will laugh with delight once he has convinced your intellect that good is evil and evil is good.
devil, demon, Satan, evil, temptation, swearing

Do you remember the great song by Don McLean, “American Pie” from 1971? It’s one of my favorite oldies ever. One of the great lines from that very long song is “I saw Satan laughing with delight, the day the music died.” This phrase was an allusion to the death of Buddy Holly and the ascendance of Mick Jagger in Rock and Roll music. But the same phrase can be used just as much today in our decadent era of assassinating free speech in the form of the great Charlie Kirk, the mainstreaming of the “F” word, fornication as the norm in movies, and political violence as the answer when those on the left don’t get their way.

The Devil’s Minions

The devil certainly doesn’t work alone in this world, where he is the prince (Ephesians 2:2). He has millions, if not billions, of demons to assist him in the evil brainwashing of men and women to do his will, not God’s. They whisper into our ears that unlimited sex is wonderful, get your revenge, porn is great, and violence is the answer. And he also has myriads of humans, the modern-day sons and daughters of Cain, to do his dirty work. Social media, with its echo-chamber of like-minded types, fuels this hatred of everything that is good and wholesome. People say things on Tik Tok, Facebook, and Instagram that they would never say out loud to someone face to face. The anonymity provided by the Internet protects them from the blow-back they would get if they said these things in person.

This toxic brew of hate for Christianity (because it conflicts with their support for homosexuality, transgenderism, abortion, and so on), plus being surrounded by voices egging everyone on in the mainstream media with infantile name calling (Conservatives are fascists, Hitler, Nazis, or Oligarchs), and comments or stunts by leftist politicians and comedians (“Bring a gun to a knife fight,” “I’d like to beat up Trump,” “Harass them all in restaurants,” holding up a decapitated Trump head, for example), add so much fuel to the political fire that it gets into the brains of young men and women out there in the dark culture of political correctness, with its hatred of all that is traditional and good. Good becomes evil and evil becomes good in their young mush-minds. Isaiah 5:20 says “Woe unto them who call good evil and evil good.” They then start listening to the voices in their head, which could be demonic, as well as from the latest news report by radical leftist news-readers on TV.  These voices suggest to them to take action against whatever they consider to be unjust and evil, like Charlie Kirk, Teslas, ICE, and the police. And when you fight evil, the ends justify the means. So in their young and foolish minds, they are always right, and traditional society with its mores is always wrong.

The Number “6” and Historical Repetition

I can plainly remember the late 1960s, with its marijuana and LSD culture, hippies, free love, trying to blow up the Pentagon, and assassinations of great leaders. It seems as though history is repeating itself some 60 years later. An interesting side note to all of this is the numerology of the number “6.”  Man and beasts were created on the sixth day, 666 is a number referring to Nero and his decadence, and Goliath was six cubits tall. “Six” seems to be an evil number in the Bible, and history seems to bear this out. In fact, St. Peter and St. Paul were murdered by Romans in the year 66, which is a number that is twice the age of Jesus when He was crucified. The insurrection between the Jews and the Romans happened in the ‘60’s, which led to the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. (Thus, war between men is associated with “6”, and the Old Covenant sacrifices in the Temple came to an end in a year with “7” in it. “Seven” is the number of the Covenant, a sacred family bond between God and His people. In Hebrew, to “swear a covenant” and the number seven are the exact same word).

God rested on the seventh day, because he had made a Covenant with Adam 0and Eve. I find it all very interesting, especially with the 2000th year anniversary of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus rapidly approaching us in the year 2033, just eight years from now. In my opinion, the devil knows all of this numerology and is taking his final shot at The Lord and His children. Who really knows for sure, except God the Father? But in my mind, the signs of the times are present for all to see.

The Answer to All of This Mayhem

So what is the answer? Catholicism to the max is the antidote. Going to daily Mass (as in “Give us this day our daily bread,” which is the Eucharist) like the apostles did. In Acts 2:46, sacred Scripture says that they all met DAILY for the breaking of the bread, not just once a week on the Lord’s Day (Sunday). So if you have access to daily Mass, where millions of saints and angels also attend, then GO! Every Holy Communion received in the state of grace and with full acknowledgment of our sinfulness adds untold sanctifying grace to our bodies and souls. This grace in us is analogous to lighting a giant candle in the world for the devil to see. And when he sees you lit up spiritually like Jesus was in the Transfiguration, he will flee from you like a cockroach when the light comes on. If enough people do this, then the only place he will have to flee is back home to hell.

St. John Paul II Prophecy From 1976

St. John Paul II foretold this demonic age way back in 1976. How he knew is anybody’s guess, but he was spot on:

“We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced. I do not think that the wide circle of the American Society, or the whole wide circle of the Christian Community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-church, between the gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the Antichrist. The confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God’s Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously.”

St. Louis de Montfort Prophecy from the 18th Century

This hard-working saint wrote the great book, “True Devotion to Mary,” which he predicted that the devil would try to destroy. He was correct, as he wrote it in 1712. This book remained hidden until 1842, when it was accidentally discovered in a convent in France. It became an instant classic. St. John Paul II was a huge fan of it.

“But the power of Mary over all the devils will especially shine forth in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her heel; that is to say, her humble slaves, and her poor children, whom she will raise up to make war against him. They shall be little and poor in the world’s esteem, And abased before all like the heel, trodden underfoot and persecuted as the heel is by the other members of the body. But in return for this they shall be rich in the grace of God, which Mary shall distribute to them abundantly. They shall be great and exalted before God in sanctity, superior to all other creatures by their lively zeal, and so well sustained with God’s assistance that, with the humility of their heel, in union with Mary, they shall crush the head of the devil and cause Jesus Christ to triumph. Satan, being proud, suffers infinitely more from being beaten and punished by a little and humble handmaid of God, and Her humility has humbled him the more than the divine power; and secondly, because God has given Mary such great power against the devils that—as they have often been obliged to confess, by the mouths of the possessed—that they fear one of her sighs for a soul more than the prayer of all the saints, and one of her threats against them more than all other torments. It was through Mary that the salvation of the world was begun, and it is through Mary that it must be consummated.”

St. Maximilian Kolbe Prophecy on the Last Days

“Modern times are dominated by Satan and will be more so in the future. The conflict with hell cannot be engaged by men, even the most clever. The Immaculata alone has from God the promise of victory over Satan. However, assumed into Heaven, the Mother of God now requires our cooperation. She seeks souls who will consecrate themselves entirely to her, who will become in her hands effective instruments for the defeat of Satan and the spreading of God’s kingdom upon earth.”

Practical Ways to Fight Back Against Satan

Our intellect and our will are two things the devil wants to control in us. Once he has convinced our intellect that good is evil and evil is good, then our will to sin becomes second nature. Think of an offensive line in football. They have three choices to make:

    • To lie down and let the defense sack the quarterback;
    • To stand up and get in the way of the defense, but the quarterback has to scramble madly to avoid getting sacked:
    • To stand up and totally block the defense, like real men, and then the quarterback can complete the mission to score.

This describes EXACTLY the dilemma we have in our minds in 21st Century America:

    • Our mind can just revel in impure and unholy thoughts, which always results in sin against God;
    • Our mind can just try not to think about impure and unholy thoughts, which usually results in failure and sin after a while;
    • Our mind can say “I reject, rebuke, renounce, and repudiate ALL evil thoughts, in the name of Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Chaste Heart of St. Joseph.” “Hail Mary Full of Grace….” until the bad thoughts go away. This heavenly help combined with our words of defiance works every time.

Daily Mass, going to Adoration often, daily Rosaries, the St. Michael prayer, frequent confession, and wearing the miraculous medal/scapular are things we can do to prevent the devil from attacking us. Going to sleep with a rosary or a crucifix in your right hand is one way to prevent the devil from coming after you when you are at your weakest point.

Meditation on the Passion while staring at a crucifix really pleases God. You are imitating the Blessed Virgin Mary at Calvary by doing this. The devil hates the crucifixion and Mary both, so this is a two-for-one special when it comes to spiritual warfare.

Sudden Death

Another football analogy is “sudden death.” This is when the first team to score in overtime wins the game. I have seen some videos of people keeling over dead recently, dying “suddenly.”  We should all be conscious of the fact that our lives are not our own, and God can pull the plug on us at any time. This is something atheists never think of, but Catholics should always be aware of.  The thought of having a moment of earthly pleasure and then immediately dying should literally “scare us to death.”

So stay awake, pray, receive the sacraments often, and then Satan will no longer be laughing at you. Instead, he will be cursing your total dependence on God for your salvation. He really wants you struggling on your own, instead of leaning TOTALLY on Jesus and His saints and angels!  HAIL MARY!

  2. “egging everyone on in the mainstream media with infantile name calling (Conservatives are fascists, Hitler, Nazis, or Oligarchs), and comments or stunts by leftist politicians and comedians”
    There is general coarsening of political discourse that’s not confined to the left. Have you seen the video of King Trump in a jet dumping excrement on U.S. citizens posted by Trump himself? Have you ever examined the language he uses to describe his political opponents. He has used terms like “fascists” , “poisoning the blood of the people” and dropped many an f-bomb on his opponents.

  3. You are making connections where none exist. That isn’t the work of the devil but of a troubled mind. I’m glad daily Mass helps you. I hope you also seek professional help as well. God Bless.

    1. You are in error Susanne. Ray Sullivan is almost accurate in estimating the year 2033 as significant in the victory of God over evil. The more accurate date is 2031. The Venerable Bishop Fulton Sheen came up with this date because of a 2 year error in the official Church calender of Jesus’ birth. Go research this on youtube.com. The Immaculate Heart of Mary will Truimph in 2031. But this will be preceded by a great purification of the Church beforehand!!! Do your research Susanne!!!!!!!!

  4. Maybe what we see is related to the upcoming 2000th anniversary of the Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension.
    Maybe we are experiencing the “Three Days of Darkness” some have foretold, but the darkness is spiritual (leading people to believe absurd things about the nature of men and women, for example), and the “days” are decades.
    Maybe neither.
    Maybe both.

  6. Ray I really appreciate you sharing the fruits of your contemplation with us. Your words are truly needed in this time of our battle, “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood: but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Eph 6:12
    Thanks be to God since we already know who won!

  7. In American Pie, the day the music died referred also to the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens (La Bamba) who died along with Buddy Holly. Losing one was tough; losing all three was devastating! Agree with you on daily mass. It sets the tone for your whole day and keeps us more closely united to the Church Militant.

    As a practicing Numerologist, I would normally take umbrage at your definition of what the number 6 represents, but in the spirit of love, would rather show you the true meaning.
    “The number 6 is the embodiment of the heart. It represents unconditional love and the ability to support, nurture, and heal. It is a powerful force of compassion and empathy and its warm light is a beacon of hope. Its role is to use its heart and soul to be of service to others. The 6 in Numerology shines in partnerships of all kinds but especially emotional ones. Its empathy makes others comfortable letting down their guard and being open and honest about their feelings which, in turn, allows it to understand and provide the help that’s needed. We could all use someone in our life who manifests this devoted energy.”

    1. Appeal to authority might be a weak argument, but simply putting quotation marks around unsupported assertions with no citation is not even an argument at all; it remains an unsupported assertion.

      I can’t believe I’m replying to someone who’s not even a dilettante. It was pulled off the internet for a quick reference, sort of like buying a hamburger, anywhere; but if you want another authentic resource check out Matthew Oliver Goodwin.

    3. The Vatican teaches that numerology, defined as using numbers to interpret character or predict the future, is strictly forbidden as it falls under divination practices. However, the Church acknowledges the symbolic significance of certain numbers in Scripture, which can convey spiritual truths without being used for fortune-telling or similar purposes.

    4. an ordinary papist

      Without the infusion of numerology into astrological (another church taboo) interpretation, divined by the Magi, they would have not found Jesus. Numerology is a tool that is well suited to precisely gauge anyone’s personality. Unlike the dabbling speculation, obvious in this essay, it is never used to predict or tease out events but excels in after-the-fact analysis.
