We often ask ourselves if God hears our prayers and what we have to do when He’s not talking. When someone asks me these questions I always say that, of course, God hears everyone and when we think that He’s not talking that just means that we don’t hear Him or maybe don`t want to hear Him.
Divorce
I know several stories about the broken hearts that I’ve heard from our fellow parishioners but first of all, I must explain that I’ve experienced divorce myself.
Now, unfortunately, a lot of people outlived the divorce with their partners, though at the beginning of the relationship they all thought their marriages would last forever.
Most people start seeking faith and help in the Church after a crisis. It’s the right thing to do but.
“But now these three things abide: faith, hope, love; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:4–13)
So, as I`ve already said I had a great problem. My marriage fell apart. It made me come to the Catholic Church and there I began to seek the faith. I considered the question why God was so fierce with me and why He didn`t take care of my romantic relationship. I wondered why He didn`t seem to even want to send me a good husband. I really couldn’t understand why that happened to me.
At that time I thought that God did unjustly with me and I continued waiting for a good man from Him as His power is almighty.
But every moment when such thoughts appeared in my head I heard His voice in my heart: “Haven’t you had enough My love? Didn’t you receive My full pardon and consolation for your heart?”
My Great Mistake
I admitted in tears that “I value God’s love, but at the same time I want to be happy and to have a good family”. I felt that my heart needed to be tied to someone to be really happy. In fact, I appreciated a person’s love above God`s. It was my great mistake.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment”. (Matthew 22:37-39)
Now I look back and understand that I’ve looked for love in the wrong place. I thought a lot why I was waiting for the marriage as it didn’t help me to find the true love which my heart so needed. Once coming to the Church to say that prayer I realized that only God knows what I need and only He gives me what I need.
Since then I know that God will be in my heart for the rest of my life. He helped me to understand what love is. I think you understand what I’m talking about.
When we ask God to give us a partner, we block His love as our earthly life captivates us and detracts from God. Anger that begins to live in our hearts if some troubles happen builds a huge wall between us and Him. It ruins our faith and if we’re honest our desire for marriage encourages to give up the love of God as we want to realize our own selfish demands in the marriage. Of course, He never stops loving us, but we ignore Him when we are desperately looking for the person who makes us happy! We become totally depend on our happiness and it rules us. And if we think that our happiness depends on the Earth creature, our spouse, and God doesn’t rule our lives we’re naive! I`ve said it again – “He is almighty”. He stays away because He doesn’t want to make our life easy.
True Love
God didn’t help me by creating some sort of miracle and an ideal man didn`t appear in my life when I asked Him to. Instead of this, He gave me the opportunity to learn the sacrificial love of other people. I wanted to get love but God taught me to give. In such a way He revealed to me the essence of love.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts always hopes and always perseveres. Love never fails”. (1 Corinthians 13:4–13)
Of course, God helps us to meet and care for other people but we make our choice by ourselves. We decide ourselves with whom we become friends and with whom we start the romantic relationships. He is so generous that He allows us to choose. God wants we enjoy true love but it cannot exist without the freedom of choice.
If you find God in your heart, faith comes in your life then you know what true love is.
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God”. (John 4:7)
