Mary Makes All Things Beautiful

wedding-feast

If our prayers are like gems, we surely can entrust Mary to polish them before she presents them to Our Lord. We can only imagine on earth how beautifully they will shine in the delicate hands of Our Lady who then passes these treasures to the hands of Our Maker in Heaven. Likewise, if our prayers are like candles, we can be well assured that Mary brings about a sweet scent to them as she hands them to God. Thus, it is true that in the hands of Mary all things are made even more beautiful. Through her intercession, we are brought closer and closer to the one we are meant to share with in full communion.

So, what must we do if we want to be on the path to Heaven? We should go straight to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She converts the most wretched sinners with a gentle gaze into their hearts. She also is the one who seeks out our needs and goes directly to her son, Jesus. This is shown in the Luminous Mystery of the Rosary: the wedding feast of Cana.

“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ (And) Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servers, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, ‘Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.’ So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, ‘Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.’ Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.” (John 2:1-11)

In this Bible passage, we see that Mary is observant to the needs of others and knows that Jesus will listen to her. We can also see in this mystery that something beautiful happens, a wedding, but the Blessed Virgin Mary makes this occasion even more beautiful because a miracle takes place. Jesus’ first public miracle happens, which shows not only the power and mercy of God, but also the wonderful intercession of Mary.

Sacred Scripture says, “‘The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field’” (Matthew 13:44).  If we truly believe this, we should know that Mary gives us the map to the hidden treasure and a shovel and says, “Start digging.” Mary is always the guiding star that leads us home to God. She will always, and I mean always, lead us in the right direction.

For further reflection, ponder the words of Saint John Paul II. He said:

“To succeed in your intentions, entrust yourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary always, but especially in moments of difficulty and darkness. ‘From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s will in things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ, her Son and the Son of God…Learn from her to be always faithful, to trust that God’s Word to you will be fulfilled, and that nothing is impossible with God.’”

Ssince Mary is the highest saint in Heaven, I know we might feel that we are unworthy to go to her. However, her greatness and glory should only increase our devotion. Having someone in our life so powerful who not only cares about our salvation but prays and watches over us day and night so that we can become saints and live forever in the kingdom of God should make our hearts rejoice.

With all this in mind, I encourage you to entrust your life to Our Lady and know that she will never lead you astray. In fact, her heart burns with so much love for you and God that she is already making a nice home for you in Heaven. United with God and the angels and saints, Mary makes your home in Heaven even more beautiful than your home on earth.
